Studio Project | 2016 Fall
The Hoop House project required us to work in groups of 5 or 6 to construct a portable and lightweight enclosure for extending the growing season of a raised garden bed during cold weather. The enclosure combined a thin membrane of greenhouse plastic and a lightweight aluminum framing system. The hoop houses were designed for the David Lawrence Convention Center's urban garden. The center’s in- house catering team has a sizable rooftop garden (which supplements their menu with fresh, local produce) as well as a public outreach component - to teach visitors about healthy diets, raise awareness about sustainable food production, and serve as a living model to better understand ecological systems.
